The variety
From the Acadian barn of northeastern Maine to the Finnish hay barn of the Upper Midwest and the rare and scattered housebarns, ethnic outbuildings are a rare manifestation of the variety of ethnic heritages present in America's farm belt. Although most familiar to the public through "pickled" versions found in outdoor museums such as Old World Wisconsin and the Shenandoah Valley's Museum of American Frontier Culture, example of many building types still exist on the back roads of the farm belt. Since all of these building types are limited to a particular geographic area, each entry includes a map indicating where such buildings are found.
Due to the commonness of the Pennsylvania (German) barn and the Dutch barn, these two building types are considered under General barn.
